Building momentum to expand horizons
Grand Canyon Chamber looks forward to a successful New Year with new blood, new ideas
TUSAYAN, Ariz. - The Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Bureau completed their ballot count Dec. 13 and the following people have been elected by the business community to serve on the 2012 chamber board: Jeannie Sharp from Xanterra, Mike Halpin with Grand Canyon Airport, Freda Rahnenfuehrer with Best Western Squire Inn and Brian Ciesielski from We Cook Pizza and Pasta.
The following individuals, elected in 2010, have a two-year term and will also serve the board in 2012: Bess Foster with Red Feather Lodge, who will serve as Chamber Board President 2012, John Tatham with Grand Canyon Jeep Tours, Julie Aldaz from R.P.'s Stage Stop, Yvonne Trujillo from McDonald's, and Mike Rock from the Grand Hotel.
"I think the election turned out really great," current Chamber Board President Mike Rock said. "We have fantastic people that want to get involved with the community, three or four that are new to the chamber, and some new blood, fresh ideas and are looking forward to build on our successes from 2011 for the coming year."
The chamber is pleased with their many accomplishments this year such as their chamber mixers, Fourth of July event, October-Fest, supporting the Grand Canyon Recreation Center with the Grand Canyon Marathon, their new website, and improved social media.
Rock added that the success of those events would not have been possible without support and leadership from Josie Bustillos.
"Change can be difficult and Josie and her team have laid a strong foundation to continue to grow our chamber and bringing business to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon," he said.
Rock is confident that the 2012 board will continue the chamber's momentum to build and develop our businesses for many years to come.
"I'd like to thank ClayAnn Cook, Brent Kok and Mike Friedman as well," Rock added. "Brent served eight years, Mike for six years and ClayAnn for five, so I'd like to recognize all they have done for the community."
The chamber's annual luncheon will be held on Jan. 18 at the Best Western Squire Inn.
