Rock-tober Fest brings the beer to Tusayan
Food and Grand Canyon Brewery beer pairing event at Grand Canyon Dinner Theatre Saturday, 5 to 10 p.m.

TUSAYAN, Ariz. - Four top chefs from the Grand Canyon and Tusayan area have joined forces for this year's second annual Rock-tober Fest, pairing their culinary designs with beer from the Grand Canyon Brewery, certain to satisfy the pickiest of eaters.

The Rock-tober Fest event, sponsored by the Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau in partnership with the Grand Canyon Brewery, will feature a casino night as part of Saturday's festivities at the Grand Canyon Dinner Theatre in Tusayan.

Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce General Manager Josie Bustillos said she anticipates more than 125 participants.

"We could not have done this last year or this year without the help and hard work of our chefs, and of course it would only be a dream without our partnership with Grand Canyon Brewing Company." she said. "They work really hard for us we are lucky to have them as our event sponsor."

Grand Canyon Dinner Theatre's Head Chef Brandon Bettencourt is heading up a chef team from neighboring hotels: Grand Canyon Squire Inn Executive Chef Norm Fuerfanger, Grand Hotel Chef John Fitzgerald and El Tovar Head Chef Matt McTigue.

Grand Canyon School graduate Bettencourt said one of his appetizer dishes will be chorizo and potato taquitos with green chili tomatillo paired with Grand Canyon Brewery's Vienna Style beer. For an entrée, carne asada with rice and pumpkin chipotle sauce will be paired with the Pumpkin Porter beer.

Grand Canyon Brewery Owner John Peasley said last year's food pairing was top-notch, which in part made for a sold out event and a request to make this year's event bigger and better than ever. Grand Canyon Brewery will feature two new seasonal beer concoctions, along with an unveiling of "a new beer product."

Legacy Djs will also be spinning all evening.

The chamber fundraiser is open to the public. Reservations are required for the food and beer pairing. Advance tickets are $50 per person. Day of event tickets are $55. Happy hour starts at 5 p.m. Dinner is served at 6 p.m.

"Xanterra is offering complementary shuttle service for those coming from the park and the Red Feather Lodge is offering great room rates for out of town and locals that may want to stay in Tusayan for the night," Bustillos said. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
