GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Despite breezy conditions Grand Canyon celebrated the 46th anniversary of Earth Day in style with games, costumes, raffles and free fruits and vegetables.

The event put on each year by the National Park Service (NPS) was held in an open-house style celebration April 22 at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center Plaza.

This year's focus was on water, including conservation, quality and encouraging people to develop a broader understanding of the resource.

Grand Canyon's Green Team, comprised of employees from various National Park Service divisions, park concessioners and park partners collaboratively worked to increase the awareness and level of environmental stewardship within the Grand Canyon community.

Visitors and locals participated in the event which included information booths with free giveaways and raffles, games and other fun activities for children and a variety of costumed characters raising awareness on a variety of environmental issues.
